Stunning Scandinavian Stays
Scandinavian stays that will make you want to pack your bags immediately ✈️
Let’s be honest for a second. We’ve all seen the classic Scandinavian travel photos: the minimalist cabins, the perfectly steaming saunas, and the Northern Lights doing their glowing dance overhead. But if your travel bucket list is starting to look a little copy-and-paste, it’s time for an upgrade.
Today, we are skipping the standard tourist hubs and diving headfirst into the architectural marvels, private islands, and off-the-grid design sanctuaries that make the Nordic region a playground for luxury travelers. From a hotel built beneath mainland Europe’s only glacier to a private island that uses seaweed-filled mattresses, here are some absolutely stunning Scandinavian stays you need on your radar.
Grab a cardamom bun and let’s get into it.

Isbreen the Glacier
Norway
This is luxury glamping at the edge of the world like you've never seen before. Located on the shores of fjord with no one else in sight, these 5 high-end geodesic domes sit right beneath mainland Europe’s only glacier that flows directly into the sea. You can watch glaciers calving from your private outdoor hot tub or look up at the Northern Lights from your igloo before enjoying food from a chef so good that celebrities fly their private jets directly here to enjoy his food (and the privacy and silence).
P.S. This hotel offers a very special opportunity that no other hotel in Scandinavia offers. This is the only spot where you can witness the top-secret Sami (local indigenous people) annual reindeer migration, where you can watch 5,000+ reindeer swim across the fjord as they move from their summer to winter land. It's so special that it's already sold out for 2026 & 2027. Contact me for details about 2028!
Floating Safari Camp
Sweden
This is the world's first floating glamping camp on a raft above the Arctic Circle. Anchored in a secluded bay on a lake, this off-grid, sustainably built cabin features a wood-fired stove, a traditional wood-fired sauna, an outdoor tub, hammock, barbeque, paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, fishing equipment, and a private chef who whips up multi-course meals right on the water. Fitting up to 6 people, this camp offers the perfect option for groups who want to get away from everything (but it's only a 5 minute boat ride away from land so you aren't too far away).
This option is only available in summer but the sauna is placed on the frozen river during winter and you can stay at the Aurora Safari Camp!
Lilløy Lindenberg
Norway
An impossibly chic, adults-only hideaway nestled on its own private island. Focused entirely on sustainability and vegan living, the property features oak floors, local art, and custom mattresses stuffed with hand-gathered seaweed from the surrounding fjords. The structures on the island have been around since 1906 and were even occupied by the Nazis during WW2. One of the former bunkers has been converted into a sauna and the above outdoor tub - complete with epic views of the fjord and archipelago.
P.S. The hotel is better for buyouts, which is easy to do with 4 rooms that fit a maximum of 10 - 12 guests total. Ask me why!
Pater Noster
Sweden
Perched on a tiny, barren rock in the North Sea, this property transformed a historic lighthouse from 1868 into one of the world's most exclusive boutique design hotels. It is rugged, isolated, beautiful, and accessible only by helicopter or boat. The property offers outdoor-focused amenities including a cliffside hot tub, a sea-facing sauna, and sea activities, like rib boat rides, seaweed tasting, snorkeling with seals, and fishing, before returning to sea-to-table feasts.
Aino Private Island
Finland
This adults-only boutique retreat is hidden in plain sight on a quiet, forested island in the middle of a river, accessible via suspension bridge. The island has been in use since 1771. With only eleven elegantly designed suites, guests can enjoy intimate local dining by an open fire, traditional saunas right on the river bank, and an Aerosonic vibration bed in the apothecary.
Hotel Union Øye
Norway
If you prefer your luxury with a deep sense of history and romance, this is your spot. Located by a breathtaking fjord, this historic hotel has been a playground for royals, writers, and mountaineers since 1891, featuring meticulously preserved rooms and pristine mountain backdrops. Don't miss the floating sauna on the fjord, the cocktail bar that features herbs from the gorgeous garden, the Relais & Châteaux restaurant, and the ghost storytelling in the lounge every night before bed.
Arctic Bath
Sweden
A striking, circular wellness hotel that floats on the Lule River in the summer and freezes solid into the ice during winter. The architecture is designed to look like a logjam, built around a central open-air giant cold plunge pool where you can cool off after your sauna ritual. Arctic Bath exclusively works with local guides and businesses, from berry picking and husky-sledding to Northern Lights excursions and wilderness photography tours. There’s even a resident moose whisperer, a Sámi nature conservationist, and wildlife expert who offers moose safari sessions and ice-fishing experiences together with his Swedish wife, who bakes the most delicious lingonberry buns and wilderness wraps.
Treehotel
Sweden
The hotel that redefined architectural travel. Suspended high in the pine canopy of Harads, each treehouse cabin is designed by a different famous Nordic architect. You can sleep inside a giant bird’s nest, a sleek mirrored cube that reflects the forest, or a retro UFO.
Eilert Smith Hotel
Norway
Tucked away in Stavanger, this boutique gem is a masterclass in architectural restoration. Housed in a beautifully preserved 1930s functionalist building, it features just 12 uniquely styled rooms and is home to RE-NAA, the only restaurant in Norway outside of Oslo to hold three Michelin stars. For the ultimate indulgence, book the dual-level Eilert Residence, widely considered the most epic penthouse suite in Norway, boasting panoramic views over the fjord and city and an incredible spiral staircase. Trips range from 2.5-hour canyon tours to extended wilderness safaris, allowing you to experience the rapids, lush landscapes, and midnight sun.
Logger's Lodge
Sweden
This retreat is the epitome of privacy and luxury. This historic 19th-century timber-driver's cabin has been converted into a romantic, fully staffed eco-lodge for two to six people (however many you want to fit into the two separated bedrooms). Hidden deep in the boreal forest with no neighbors for miles, it offers absolute solitude, gourmet dining, and a private wood-fired sauna. With absolutely zero light pollution, it is one of the premier spots in Sweden to view the Northern Lights directly from your private outdoor hot tub. Your personal chef handles every meal, crafting hyper-seasonal menus over an open fire. This property is so private, the Google Maps pin is completely wrong (on purpose). It’s the perfect spot for those looking for complete privacy and to go off the grid.
Trasti & Trine
Norway
Located in the pine forests of Alta, this boutique lodge seamlessly combines a rustic-chic wilderness stay with a world-class culinary school and an award-winning husky kennel. It is the ultimate experience for foodies who want an authentic, hyper-local connection to Arctic nature. You can spend your day mushing through the snow with their resident team of enthusiastic sled dogs, then return to the lodge for a hands-on cooking class centered around wild game, berries, and fresh river fish. The food is so good here that locals even dine on property, visiting their cafe and weekend shop.

Norway
This historic manor house is situated along the top salmon-fishing waters of the Tovdalselva River. Blending old-world charm with contemporary Nordic luxury, the estate is famous for its exceptional farm-to-table restaurant, where ingredients are sourced straight from the property's historic vegetable gardens and orchards. Guests can spend their afternoons fly-fishing right from the riverbanks with expert local guides or strolling through the manicured lawns that have hosted travelers since the 16th century. In the evening, the estate comes alive with curated wine pairings from their impressive cellar, served alongside world-class dishes that celebrate the true essence of Southern Norway.
